January 10-29, 2025
Anushray Singh’s MFA Thesis, Ghar Kaha Hai?, was successfully defended at the University of Windsor (March 2020). Then, further evolution transformed it into a time-based media and photographic series exhibited at the S’eliyemetaxwtexw Art Gallery at the University of the Fraser Valley (January 2024).
The current iteration has moved from Singh’s journey of ‘Third Space’ through the perspective of immigration, identity, nostalgia, longing, abandonment, memory, and homeliness to more of a collective experience. Phase 2 of this show adds an avant-garde documentary component by interviewing 50 diverse people from primarily South Asian communities around Vancouver. They respond to questions about the meaning of home, migration, belonging and identity. The show will show vignettes of this ongoing documentary in works. Still, it will primarily focus on the ever-evolving meaning of home according to the idea of ‘Third Space’ in-between India and Canada, East and West, present and past.
The art show will recreate a unique third space through the collection of ideas shared by the collective musings of the interviewees and the interviewer.
