“I believe in human beings, and that all human beings should be respected as such, regardless of their colour.” Malcom X

Black Lives Matter. With this Animated short film, I wish to be able to touch the hearts and minds of anyone who watches it. After viewing I aim for them to support the Black Lives Matter movement and the betterment of all humans. Black people are not asking to be rescued, but if history has taught us anything, it is that everyone has a cultural responsibility to understand the impacts of racism and to respect the experiences and perspective of Black people.

For Black people around the world, too much pain has been experienced, too much trust has been broken and too many lives have been lost. Times have gotten significantly better and we are hoping and praying that we can move forward together as one, united, creating a stronger and greater chance for eradicating Racism.

In aftermath of George Floyd I wanted to raise awareness of this reality of lived experience. The camerawork, characters, lighting, story, and direction of the film is designed to shine a light on the negative interactions members of the Black community wrongfully experience with law enforcement around the world. The stories that inspired this film should never be forgotten, and by all races working together as one these stories will never happen again.

Love will always prevail.

I would like to acknowledge that I live and work on the unceded territory of Coast Salish and the S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō) people who have been stewards of the land since time immemorial. I would also like to express my gratitude and respect for the honour of living and working in this territory.
