There is insight into the human condition waiting to be revealed within the mundane. When Nature Calls employs a cast of woodland creatures going about their daily lives as an allegory for modern life. The animals in these stories have bus passes, drink lattes, struggle during the holidays, have hang-ups with clutter and endeavour to create on-line content. I chose to draw animals rather than people because I want the viewer to recognize themselves and the world around them without feeling misrepresented. The stories in these comics explore themes of identity, purpose, loneliness, and boredom; the result of paying attention to the seemingly trivial moments in my life. I want to show the value of these moments and invite readers to discover the beauty, humour, and even comfort, present within the everyday tasks that make up so much of our daily lives.
